On Tuesday August 22 San Jose City Manager Norberto Dueñas announced his retirement, after working 33 years for the city. He was promoted from Assistant City Manager in December 2014 after then-City Manager Ed Shikada was fired by Mayor-elect Sam Liccardo.
It is the End of an Era. The Dueñas era was marked with continued corruption at San Jose City Hall and a close working relationship with Liccardo, but that’s not to say he was all bad. Dueñas extolled “the collaborative spirit and dedication to public service of our employees”, and called his retirement a bittersweet moment.
