SamTrans Cuts Six Bus Routes

In an ongoing downward cycle of bus service cuts and ridership losses, the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) will eliminate six bus routes and adjust six others¬†on January 21 to partially compensate for the loss, “merging 12 of its routes into six to simplify service.” The cuts come following a gradual decline in ridership after the previous round of service cuts in 2013.

The SamTrans bus service cuts begin on Sunday, January 21, 2018. The major changes:

  • Routes 130 and 131 will merge and become a new Route 130.
  • Routes 133 and 141 will merge and become a new Route 141.
  • Routes 260 and 261 will merge and become a new Route 160.
  • Routes 86 and 286 will merge and become a new Route 286.
  • Routes 273 and 295 will merge and become a new Route 295.
  • Routes 296 and 297 will merge and become a new Route 296.

SamTrans will also make a variety of minor adjustments to routes ECR, 17, 118, 121, 56, 61, 79, and 95. What do we need to fix this dismal situation? More funding for bus service not highway expansion!

Why don’t they just eliminate ALL the routes – except ECR, and give jurisdiction back to local cities?
